July 2023
June 2023
The Theme for June was Jesus walking on the water, so our crafts were water or beach based.
JANUARY 2023
The theme for January's Messy Church at Sampford was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. A record number of people came - nearly 70 - and it certainly was messy, with ice-cream making, snowflake making, a cornflour Narnia landscape, optical illusions and cotton wool snowball throwing!
Messy Church is for children and adults to "do church" in a fun way together with family and friends.
Messy Church offers a fun, relaxed, family-centred approach to worship, based on the core values of hospitality, creativity and celebration.
It provides a fantastic way for adults and children to come together in friendship and fellowship.
Breakfast starts at 9.30 am when everybody enjoys sitting at tables with their family and friends, eating, chatting and building friendships.
Breakfasts vary, but we provide cereals, fruit and toast and a hot option which may include sausage or bacon rolls or croissants. Vegie and vegan options are available.
The theme is introduced - which may include watching a short film. Then everyone spends about 45 minutes enjoying crafts, activities and games which are linked to the theme.
At the end of the activities everyone gathers together for a time of celebration, with songs, bible stories and prayer, finishing by 11.30 am.
We commit our church community to the support, nurture, protection and safeguarding of all, especially the young and vulnerable. We recognise that our work with children, young people and vulnerable adults is the responsibility of the whole church community. We are fully committed to acting within current legislation, guidance, national frameworks and St John the Baptist Church (Sampford Peverell) safeguarding procedures. We are part of the Church of England in the Diocese of Exeter.
We will also act in an open, transparent and accountable way in working in partnership with St John the Baptist Safeguarding Lead, Children and Adult Social Care Services, the Police, Probation Services and other agencies to safeguard children and vulnerable adults. We will ensure that those who volunteer to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults are suitable for the role, that they know what the role entails and that they are supported in carrying it out.
Annually we ask our volunteers to read & review: this policy, role descriptions and the Church of England Code of Safer Working Practice
New volunteers induction & settling-in: we have a 6 month settling in period, and follow the guidelines in this document https://www.churchofengland.org/safeguarding/safeguarding-e-manual/safer-recruitment-and-people-management-guidance/section-13-probationarysettling-period taking the advice of the PCC to agree the responsible person appointed to each new volunteer.
